Music From The Cancelled Future
Jamal Paris

ALBUM, DISTRIBUTION METHOD, INSTALLATION · 2025   ⚖️ Lossless

The classical definition of the “album”, since streaming first emerged, is not how music is consumed anymore. An album today is a collection of songs released at one time, to be sorted onto Spotify playlists, TikTok trends, and Instagram stories. This album however, comes “pre-fragmented” across multiple platforms, existing everywhere and nowhere, mirroring how we as musicians, listeners, and humans exist in the Cancelled Future (Mark Fisher).

The installation is a personification of the album, fragmented, loud, and layered, it stands at eye level with the viewer, and disperses the tracks in different directions all at once. When all the songs blur into one, the full album finally reveals itself to the audience in person.
